Description
This is Race Point Lighthouse a long walk out to the tip of Cape Cod. It's a great walk if you ever have the opportunity and scenic is not enough to describe the place. The original lighthouse at Race Point was s 20-foot rubble tower constructed in 1816. The current 40-foot tower was built in 1876. The lighthouse and associated buildings can be visited by 4 wheel drive vehicles or a very long (2 mi.) walk to the end of Cape Cod at Provincetown. However, a more interesting way to view this lighthouse as well as Long Point and Wood End lights is by joining a whale watch cruise from P-town. Early spring, from the end of April through June seem to offer the best whale activity. The trips are inexpensive, informative, and can be very exciting as these huge mammals feed off the Mass. Coastline.
